ICSC Program Overview

The purpose of the ICSC program is to provide Doctor of Chiropractic (DCs) with postgraduate training in sports chiropractic.

The ICSC program consists of two components:

  1. Online courses: and
  2. Hands-on face to face seminars.

Upon successful completion of the ICSC Program, graduates will have received essential training to meaningfully perform evaluation and assessment of various conditions pertaining to athletic participants as well as take necessary corrective responses and measures to treat athletic injuries.

Further, graduates who successfully completed the ICSC Program are eligible for ICSC certification which is required to work at International games as part of the FICS sports chiropractic team.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES OF THE ICSC PROGRAM: 

  1. Understand the medico-legal concerns of providing care to athletes 
  2. Develop confidence in sport emergency procedures and triage 
  3. Understand the importance of athletic history 
  4. Demonstrate a knowledge base that allows for concise physical examination of athletic injuries to the spine and extremities 
  5. Demonstrate a minimal competence in musculoskeletal diagnosis as it pertains to sport 
  6. Understand a broad battery of interventions allowing for a safe and prompt return to sport 
  7. Demonstrate a variety of sports injury prevention applications 

 

EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE SUCCESSFUL ICSC GRADUATE 

Upon completion of the ICSC course, graduates are expected to: 

  1. Understand the difference between the general practice chiropractor and the chiropractor with the concentration in sports and their role within the sports care team; 
  2. Demonstrate a minimal competency in prevention, assessment, and management including the performance of an athlete with an acute and chronic sports injury and to aid in the return to sport safely and effectively;
  3. Demonstrated a minimal competency of on-field experience or other approved literary activity such as a publishable paper or poster presentation; and 
  4. Develop life-long graduates
